Stardate 44085.7 Aboard the Enterprise, a young boy's practical joke backfires, leaving his brother dangerously ill. The ill boy needs special treatment to survive, so the ship rushes toward a nearby Starbase. En route, Data (Brent Spiner) inexplicably begins to malfunction, altering the ship's course and severing the life support systems on the bridge. The command crew is forced to evacuate, leaving Data alone and in control of the Enterprise. Data takes the ship to a planet and then beams down, where he is greeted by Dr. Noonian Soong (Brent Spiner), the doctor who created him. Dr. Soong has summoned Data in order to implant an emotion chip, but before he can, Data's evil brother Lore (Brent Spiner) arrives and disrupts Dr. Soong's plan. Meanwhile, the Enterprise crew works feverishly to regain control of the ship as time is running out for the ill boy. |

Stardate 44012.3 After being damaged in a Borg attack, the Enterprise docks in Earth's orbit for repairs. Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart), still recovering from injuries inflicted by the Borg, returns for the first time in twenty years to the French village where he grew up. However, his older brother Robert (Jeremy Kemp) feels deep-seated jealousy and resentment toward Picard and greets him with contempt. Back on the Enterprise, Worf's human parents pay him an unexpected visit. Feeling disgraced because of Klingon ritual shaming, Worf has difficulty facing them until Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) provides some insight. On Earth, Picard receives an offer to head a scientific project and seriously considers leaving Starfleet to take the job. His brother sees this as an opportunity to undermine Picard's façade of perfection. Will Picard be able to face the truth about himself that only his brother understands? |
