Stardate 47423.9 The Enterprise responds to an emergency distress call from Nikolai Rozhenko (Paul Sorvino), Worf's (Michael Dorn) foster brother, who is stationed on Boraal II, a planet that is rapidly deteriorating. Since the Boraalans know nothing of space travel, Worf transports to the surface in disguise and finds his brother hiding in a cave with a group of villagers. Back on the Enterprise, Nikolai proposes a plan to save the Boraalan colony, but Picard (Patrick Stewart) refuses to violate the Prime Directive. After the planet self-destructs, Worf discovers that Nikolai secretly beamed the villagers aboard into a Holodeck simulation of their natural environment. Now the crew must find the Boraalans a new home before their innocence is destroyed. |

Stardate Unknown Beverly (Gates McFadden), travels to Caldos IV to attend her grandmother's funeral. At the service, she encounters a mysterious and handsome young man who gives her a knowing look. Back on the Enterprise, the crew notes that there is something wrong with the planet's weather control system and begins to investigate. Meanwhile, Beverly reads her grandmother's journals and discovers that she had a young lover named Ronin (Duncan Regehr). When a severe storm hits the planet, Beverly takes refuge in her grandmother's house where she hears a strange male voice. He identifies himself as Ronin, a ghost that has been seducing the women in Beverly's family for over 800 years - and she is his newest target. The US release of this title has been shortened by nearly 4½ minutes. The entire 2nd act, which should begin after the first "commercial" break (minute 14:17 on the side) is missing. The program skips the entire act, picking up after the 2nd "commercial" break. This accounts for the shortened running time. I made Pioneer aware of the problem and after some investigation determined that the tape provided by Paramount was faulty. A corrected tape was provided to Pioneer with instructions that should a repressing of the title be necessary, the corrected tape was to be used. The disc was never repressed. The Japanese Box Set Log 13 which contains the first 14 episodes of the 7th season, includes the full uncut episode. The part of the episode that is missing begins where Beverly tells Troi of her dream. Beverly then beams down to the colony to place flowers on her grandmother's grave and is told of the 'ghost' by Ned. He warns Beverly not to light the candle and not to go into the house. A thunderstorm develops and is monitored by the Enterprise and Geordi suggests using a power transfer beam to help the weather station balance the grid and control the storm. The storm forces Beverly out of the cemetery and into her grandmothers house, which is mysteriously filled with flowers. |
