Stardate 45076.3 After a terrorist attack on Solarion IV, Starfleet Admiral Kennelly (Cliff Potts) frees Ensign Ro (Michelle Forbes) from prison and orders her to assist the Enterprise in locating Orta (Jeffrey Hayenga), the leader of the Bajoran terrorist group blamed for the attack. When Ro suddenly vanishes from the ship, Picard (Patrick Stewart) and an Away Team trace her to Orta's hideout. There, Orta explains that the Bajorans did not attack Solarion IV and hints that Picard is being unwittingly manipulated - with possible dire consequences. Now convinced that the Enterprise is caught in a deadly conspiracy, Picard and Ro devise a plan to smoke out the conspirators and put an end to the violence forever. |

Stardate 45122.3 While surveying on Melona IV, Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and his landing party watch helplessly as a deadly lifeform, the Crystalline Entity, attacks the planet, killing two colonists. Back on the Enterprise, the survivors are met by Dr. Kila Marr (Ellen Geer), a scientist obsessed with studying the Entity, because it had also killed her son. But when Picard (Patrick Stewart) announces that he intends to communicate with the Entity rather than destroy it, Dr. Marr, bent on revenge, unleashes a plan of her own. |
