Pressing Notes

A plethora of copies of Smokey and the Bandit II were available. The video transfer is on average with most other DiscoVision titles, too dark. The colors are bright and vibrant but the image is so dark that in the night scenes, you can't even see the elephant. The audio is also average, with a complete absence of high-ends. Disc replication is another story. Of all copies examined, all are speckled to some extent, with side 3 being the worst. It's as though the folks at the DiscoVision plant in Carson knew they were about to get laid off. It was available only in printed Jacket. The transfer is poorly composed from the anamorphic theatrical release prints, with very obvious results. The jacket was, as with all double disc jackets from the time, too small and cause a budge at the bottom edge.

Release History

Smokey and the Bandit II has never re-appeared on LaserDisc.
