As MCA DiscoVision incorporated the rigid disc structure into the format, bonded disc tests began. Bonding methods were explored and whole discs produced. This, of course added challenges of keeping the disc halves centered during bonding, smoothing the outside bonded edge and maintaining disc balance.
This would not only give the disc added rigidity, but would help to further protect the recording surface, which was so exposed to
damage with the single sided discs. During this period, DiscoVision engineers continued to work on CLV encoding. |
